They're called BIG KRUSH, they hail from America The band is built around various session players and it's the brainchild of guitarist Bob Acquaviva. What Bob has done is assemble a stellar cast of musicans who've recorded and album. A blend of bands such as Steely Dan, Air Supply, Neilson/Pearson and Bugatti & Musker is whats on offer here. Lush vocal harmonies give way to some excellent musicianship that is prevalent throughout this album. How can this band go wrong? The Answer is , they can't ! Lopez - vocals; Tim Mish - keyboards; Joe Restifo - bass, vocals; Lenny Milano - drums, percussion. Background: Here's a band from upstate New York that might tickle the fancy of may readers here. They are the seven-piece outfit Big Krush. These guys operate out off the East Coast but their music is influenced from the other side of the continent. L.A. styled west coast music is their game, with a nod to the likes of Toto, Chicago and Player. Big Krush is the mastermind of Bob Acquaviva, the band being in existance now for five years. Bob is also a producer and eng: by day at his acclaimed Acqrok Studios in Utica, NY. Trainspotters may know that Bob was also the Track Engineer on Boston's most recent release 'Corporate America'. The Songs: The music of Big Krush has a very 'live' and spontaneous feel to it, and they groove in much the way a club house band would. It also means that their live instincts come to the fore in the delivery of these songs . The band will do some local touring to coincide with the release. In the meantime, fans of West Coast (or East Coast for that matter!) should hop on over to the Big Krush website, and investigate for yourself. Review By: George Thatcher AOR FANZINE Unknown BIG KRUSH: Out of nowhere comes BIG KRUSH, an American band with a very strong calm AOR/Westcoast release like a mix between PABLO CRUISE/LITTLE RIVER BAND (the close-harmonyvocals), early 80s SANTANA, TOTO (the guitar work and song structures) and KING OF HEARTS (the light sound). Actually this CD is the most pure Westcoast release I have heard in ages. It is similar in style to the AOR project of Frederic Slama, ALLIANCE 1982 so I think you now know what to expect, namely a song based album with very melodic clean lead vocals in the TOTO/FRANKE AND THE KNOCKOUTS style and songs a la DAVID ROBERTS, JAY GRUSKA and PLAYER, so the insiders then will understand we have something really interesting here. If anyone had told me this was a Japanese re-issue from a 1982 record I would have instantly believed it. In fact, after sitting with this album for a week I finally found out the absolute best comparison, which is not DAVID ROBERTS, but good ole JOHN O'BANION, so if anyone out there likes his 1980s records, well then you're gonna love this BIG KRUSH for sure. This New York based band is without a doubt a must-have for the Westcoast/AOR fans!----------------

What's With the People Today?

Man I hated the snow storm this week, it sucked, whats worse is that there was this idiot throwing snowballs at my bus from his car. What the hell is up with that! I seriously hate it when people do stupid things such as the following: People playing rap music with the real heavy bass that eventually gives you a serious head-ache, idiodic kids who think they're cool when they try to jump you, and people who are actually stupid enough to try to open a door with their voice like in the stupid sync commercials, hilarious, until they yell at you for not openning the door. Glad I got my anger out somewhere.<img src="/include/tiny_mce/../../images/smilies/face-devil-grin.png" border="0" alt="" width="16" height="16" />

Chris Beirne

Chris Beirne has been performing in the Portland area for the past 5 years in various types of music groups including his main group "Balance". His original styles include Blues, Rock, Blue Grass, and Country using his talents on steel and slide guitar, Dobro, harmonica, and vocals. He has also chosen a unique array of cover material to compliment the shows.Chris started playing guitar at 15 years old as a student at Crestwood Middle School in Mt. Greenwood, Illinois for 3 or 4 years.  His next teacher was Glen Gerini in 1996.  Then he learned under Ken Champion- taking a few dobro lessons, which were hard to find in Chicago.  Chris studied under Larry Berm who taught him a new ring finger under blocking style for pedal steel.  While living in Portland, Oregon, he also had one half day .and one full week with Sally Van Meter at Bluegrass at the Feack in Newport, Oregon.  After numerous live gigs he had his first live radio interview on an Elvis show with Grace Elliot, who was his sister's friend, in Juneau, Alaska.  A CD soon followed with studio great, Mai Lott on drums.  A limited Success Burnside Cadillac sold about 300 copies.  Now with a rich improvisational singing voice, some sideman experience and another 7 radio show's, Chris is confident in many styles.  Chris currently plays a Yamaha Acoustic six string with gus strings, a Rare Earth pickup, an Ibanez Electric, a Doe 11.0, a Style 0 Metal 130dy and an eight string double neck that he made himself with the help of John Allison's Austin Guitar Shop.  For amplification, He uses a Dean Markley 100 watt amp with .4 70's fender, Volume pedal with a top plate.

Fieldhouse Free-For-All.

What a blast we had last night at the Fieldhouse!!We wanna thank everyone who showed up and once again Dave and Don for the sound and lights!!! We’ve said it before and we'll say it again (and again and again).Without you guys we wouldn't be doin these shows and certainly wouldn't have the quality sound that you guys provide!!! Thanks again.A Huge thanks to Face First for letting us enjoy their company and great music. Oh, and letting us jam on their gear. This is the second time we've had the opportunity to jam with them and we all hope we can do it again real soon.The bar was packed, the crowd was loud and that keeps us wanting to play more. The encore was a surprise and hopefully Green Manalishi was what you all wanted to hear. It’s certainly what we wanted to play.I could write for hours about the Fieldhouse show but can't because A Bud Light is calling my name!!!! So, just a huge thanks you to everyone that showed up and don't forget, this coming Saturday Feb. 2nd we are at BADA BREW. We'll be opening up for Reign Man and we are looking forward to that show big time. Hope you all had a blast at the Fieldhouse.
