By Anthony Baglino, 2007-04-13

Talk about talent
If you're afraid of jazz, let Tony Baglino take you there. A master of both visual arts and the jazz saxophone, Tony does not spend his life trying to impress his peers. His paintings and his music are fresh and new yet accessible to anybody willing to open up just a little. His newest album, "The New Solomon Project," is his second recording effort, and shows the natural progression of a creative jazz musician as he moves forward within his own creative sphere. But unlike many experimental musicians, he invites you in with him, instead of coldly daring you to decode his musical puzzles. You can tell that he is creating music that pleases his senses. Newness for newness' sake is not his game. The result? You hear melodic riffs you can sink your teeth into, rhythms you can understand, and structure that does not stretch you so thin that it almost disappears. Most of all, you hear music that does not shout at you, but speaks to you, and it speaks with a very pleasing voice.

When you buy "The New Solomon Project," I suggest that you take a seat, listen to it, and expect to be pleased. If you are already a jazz fan, you'll be thrilled by his confidence; his willingness to proclaim his identity. There is unity without sameness, and variety without loss of direction. And there is sincerity. If you are new to the genre, you may simply say, "I like this," and surprise yourself to discover that your tastes are not as locked in as you thought they were. Once you've heard it, put it away until you have a project to do, like cooking up a fine meal, or painting the bedroom. Now slip "The Solomon Project" into your CD player and you might discover that you have a new friend, a small body of music to live with and delight in, again and again.

There's a lot of Latin rhythm in this CD, but it'll come across as simply good rhythm. Baglinos saxophone is clean and sure, free from the self-conscious distortions some musicians resort to when they're fresh out of musical ideas. The synthetic sounds in this album are not alien noise, they're there because they add taste and texture. Suddenly you understand: sounds are not validated by the historical fact that they've been around since Handel, they are validated by the effect they have on the music they are playing.

. If you listen to jazz because you thrive on the elitism of pointless innovation, you might want to pass on "The New Solomon Project." But if you're the kind of person who takes your music where you find it, you just might fall in love with Tony Baglino and "The New Solomon Project."

οΎ Michael Kosser (Sony Records)

By Hotel de Ville, 2007-04-13

SPILL MAGAZINE: “A cinematic element which would not be out of place in a dramatic indie film. Adventurous and stirring.” april 2006

AURALGASMS.COM: “an artistic journey ending just a few steps shy of a religious experience.” april 2006

hotel de ville

The Present: Inside Hotel de Ville, the rooms tell stories and the walls have ears. Cinematic and darkly seductive, Hotel de Ville is the musical vehicle of composer and vocalist Rhett Brewer. Taking inspiration from 60's French pop, operatic intrigue and film noir, Brewer has singularly constructed a shimmering emotional drama and 21st century vision. Bittersweet melodies blend with orchestral urgency and trance inducing beats. Brewer's intoxicating music always veers between overwhelming elation and desperate heartbreak. Imbued with a state of childlike wonder, Hotel de Ville is an exhilarating yet defiantly undefinable experience that quickens the pulse and inflames the senses. Despair, lonliness and bygone dreams are ever present in the mix, as are tenderness and hope. Retreating to the creative shell of his London studio for a year, Brewer has forged a hymn to life and love, which is equally avant-garde and traditional, acknowledging no boundaries. Hotel de Ville is quite a musical departure from previous work, in which Brewer mixes classical instrumentation and down-tempo percussion while re-mixing his own otherworldly voice. The result is an emotionally stirring and softly intense soundtrack for living.

The Past: Orchestra to Arab ensemble, Brewer's debut album The Ebbing Wings of Wisdom scaled the extremes. With the release of the collaborative album These Wings Without Feathers in 1996, which also includes music by Lisa Gerrard, Brewer began to experiment with using his own voice as an instrument.

In Brewer's case, the music came before the film. Since a strong cinematic quality has always permeated Brewer's music, his early recordings led to scoring feature films. His music has become increasingly in demand for films, with seven feature film scores under his belt in the past few years. From the atmospheric British thriller Every Picture about a secret love affair that ends in murder, to the controversial and apocalyptic American film The Lot, the emotional spectrum of his work is wide and the resonance deep. For a preview of The Lot: http://www.thelotmovie.com/tonepoem/womenQTFull.html

As an 8-year old child, Brewer was hand picked as a soloist in a local New York Catholic school. The voice, in addition to piano, quickly became the preferred means of communication for him even from this early stage. A spiritual element has always infused Brewer's work, perhaps as a result of his initial musical development in a church. Early reference points for him included the Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance and David Bowie, though this was always tempered by a rampant addiction to classical music. Composers such as Arvo Part, Bach and Morricone have long since shared the shelf with groups such as Portishead, Tricky and the Gotan Project. With Hotel de Ville, the many faces of this spectrum have fused into another sound and aesthetic. Although Brewer has studied music extensively in a formal setting, he is largely self-taught. With Hotel de Ville, this has reached a new level, since Brewer has also recorded, arranged and mixed all of the music including his own vocals. To hear a preview: http://www.myspace.com/rhettbrewer

Hotel de Ville is a culmination of years of development. Brewer says he named the album and project as a metaphor for life, since in both scenarios you check in and out. Brimming with otherworldly contemplation, grounding beats and soaring voice the album is a logical next chapter; ancient and modern, classical and pop, dream-like etherea and gut-wrenching sorrow rolled into one. Enjoy your stay!

Hotel de Ville will be released throughout the UK and on Amazon.com, Borders.com, CD Baby and itunes amongst other retailers from May 1, 2006.

Bio

By ashley barnes, 2007-04-12

A-Money
Ashley Barnes was born October 27, 1984. He was raised in the heart of New Town a neighborhood known for drugs and violence. During his time in the neighborhood he enjoyed success in sports and academics. However he grew angry at being poor. He hated his surroundings for its crack fiends and excuses for not having things. He didn’t enjoy any luxuries as a child. Things like ac gas heat, showers, cable; cars, nice clothing, three meals, etc. were not part of his childhood. However Ashley Barnes grew an attitude that he controlled his own destiny. He felt he could change things.

That attitude became needed as Ashley Barnes grew into an adult. He numerously found himself in situations with murder victims, police raids, and drug bust. Finally his family was forced to move. His brother Shawn moved to north side and Ashley and his parents moved to Highland Springs with his grandparents. Ashley transferred schools and transferred lifestyles. His parents got clean and he first hand got a taste of middle class living. He meets friends from different backgrounds and conjoined them with his friends form Henderson middle and new town. By time Ashley got to high school he had an idea that he was suppose to succeed.

When Ashley got to high school everything changed again his farther died the summer going to 10th grade. His mother moved out his father’s parent’s house to an apartment close to her other son Shawn around north side. Ashley transferred to Henrico High and before his 16th birthday, his grand father died. This devastated Ashley, his grandfather was the one who provided for Ashley. With his grandfather and his farther dead Ashley lost his ties to his real family Barnes. All A- money had was his brother’s dad’s side of the family to trust. With finical burdens again upon Ashley, he has no other choice than to turn to the street. Using sale pitches that would rival mainstream commercials Ashley enjoyed immediate success. However with his success soon came hard lessons about the game. He first got locked up for procession with intent to distribute marijuana and then he got locked up again for malicious wounding. This got Ashley juvenile time and probation. Also custody of Ashley was given to the state and then to the Lundy’s. The Lundy’s accepted Ashley into there home. They taught him the value of saving money and hard work. They also taught him how to become independent. He was sent back to his Mothers house only a year after his custody was revoked. There Ashley got back into old habits. However due to his probation he was a lot calmer and relaxed this time around. This approach served him well. He again enjoyed much success. He graduated highschool on June 2002. By his 18th birthday he had an apartment of his own and was attending VCU. Largely due to success in the street and financial aid he enjoyed many luxuries other freshman didn’t enjoy. His apartment was well furnished, he drove a Lexus, and he wore diamond chains and luxury name brands clothing. This is also around the time Ashley really started rapping he appeared on five songs on the S.T. mix tape. However his success in the street for him overshadowed everything. He dropped out of VCU only as a sophomore he put it off for more money. He turned solely to the street. He however continued to rap and even started to throw parties playing some of his music. He helped bring artist to Richmond such as Ying Yang twins, and Young Jeezzy. This really open Ashley’s eyes to the money in the rap game. He begins to become more interested in the industry. By 2005 Ashley built a studio in his apartment, and in Feb. 2006 he released his first solo mix tape entitled Marijuana Music. With mix tape success Ashley started doing some open micas and along with S.T. won some talent shows. Now with the completion of Straight outta Richmond A-Money hopes to blow up his label BARNES MUSIC GROUP with his solo release dated for October 27, 2006. In 2007 after his solo release he hosted 321 Supper Club for 6 weeks. There Ashley learned how to dj, which enabled him to break his music. Ashley performed there every week polishing his performance skills to later rock club Babes in Atlanta and open up for Jim Jones back at home in Richmnond. Ashley is a talented lyricist who has lived the life others rap about. He kicks club singles like I wanna ****, and shake yo booty and street anthems like Marijuana man. He tells his stories from the heart. He is still respected on the street and as well as around the underground hip hop scene in Richmond, Va...

Contact info http://www.myspace.com/barnesmusicgroup
Or 804-614-6749 or 804-641-1006 or 804-564-0855
Or ashjr2tay@yahoo.com
Buy A-Money Striaght Outta Richmond
just click only 9.99
