By Dan Colvin, 2007-04-27

Overnight Low is the album, Zoe Montana, of Radio IO Acoustic listed as one of her "essentials" and called a "beauty start to finish..." This much anticipated follow-up to Big Hands Colvin's 2005 "Real Strong Stuff" hits consistent highs with more blues, rock and folk originals. The CD opens with the title track, a contemporary blues tune that has Colvin singing about the time he "rode his thumb" across country, where "You've gotta get high to survive the overnight low." The horn section shines here, but the story is the thing and Colvin tells it masterfully. Autobiographical songs carry the listener along, including the inspired "Destiny" and the darker, jazz-influenced, "Still Ready", where Colvin remembers driving his father home from the local bars as a child. Ultimately though, it's tracks 7 and 8 that might show Big Hands at his best. "Heaven" features Colvin's smoky vocals, and some of the record's heaviest lyrics, and "Diamonds in the Sand" moves like a modern spiritual, riding Colvin's voice and the incredible fiddle of guest artist, Julie Beaver. Colvin has been on the road too long for overnight success, but with Overnight Low he continues to establish himself as one of the more interesting independent singer-songwriters around. --Johnny "Michigan" Morris.

By Mike Beloud, 2007-04-27

After almost 3 years in the making, the new CD, Stand The Line, from the Catholic band RISE is scheduled to hit stores on February 1, 2006.
We recently had the exclusive opportunity to sample 3 songs from the new CD and the guys have definitely found their sound! With the addition of new drummer Mike Partain, the guys, Steve Rogers (lead singer, writer) Mike Beloud (guitar) and Jorge Ramirez (bass) have completed songs that can be described in one word, REAL!

From the song “Maybe Someday”, a true Rock n' Praise tune, to the Acoustic heartfelt song “Half Way”, the guys have definitely been touched by the Holy Spirit in creating music that will be loved by teens as well as adults.

RISE has also added a new level to Christian music with a song called “Cancers Creation.” We have never heard a song like this in Christian or secular music. Steve Rogers bravely opens his soul and writes about his experience with cancer and the guys presentation of this song will have you by your heart strings.

The new CD is true to Rise’s Rock n' Roll roots, from the sound and feel of Bon Jovi to the writing and harmonies of the Eagles. Stand The Line is a CD for those who miss the genuine sound of a classic Rock band blended with a strong love and devotion for our Lord. These guys have nailed it! In the words of the Righteous Brothers; "If there's a Rock n' Roll heaven, you can bet RISE will be headlining!

Although Stand The Line won’t be available in stores until February 1, 2006, the guys have already begun pre-sales on their web site RiseFan.com with a lot of great incentives for fans who pre-purchase the CD. Be sure to reserve your copy ASAP, we already have!

(This update is courtesy of Gary Gersin at SacredHeartRadio.net.)

By Joseph Maas, 2007-04-27

Life Span - Joseph Maas
New Age/Soundscapes/World

30 second review from SolarCitadel.com:

When New Age meets the Next Age

Often cinematic in scale and with emphasis on flowing melodic passages, the new Life Span CD takes the listener on an atmospheric journey from the depths of the African Continent (Before the Storm), to the windswept coastal byways of the deep South Pacific (Morning Star). Be it the slow, liquid tones of an antique 12 string guitar against the backdrop of New Zealand's Ohakune rain forest (Life Span) or the haunting strains of the ancient double reed Daduke (After the Storm), this music is an exploration in sonic textures invoke strange lands and new vistas within the mind’s eye.

Through use of both rare traditional instruments such as the Middle Eastern Daduke, as well as electronically invented instruments (that have essentially never been heard before), with all the delicate phrasing and subtle nuances normally heard in the concert hall, a life-long dream has been realized in this work.

This debut CD, LifeSpan is truly a labor of love. Thirty months in the making, Life Span is a grand project created without the pressure of production studio budgets and deadlines. It is clear that compositions on Life Span were carefully crafted to reveal unique chapters of an atmospheric journey. In many ways it's an adventure, a theme-propelled road trip through ever changing landscape on the way to the next great age of music.
